Simon Says; Co-founder and CEO Simon P. Lock’s key learnings from CIRPASS

Our Co-founder and CEO Simon P. Lock attended yesterday’s CIRPASS State of play and possible future developments of the Digital Product Passport (“DPP”) and noted his key take-aways. Authentique is proud to announce that with our Authentique Vision AI and Authentique DPP, we are featured as one of the key solutions in the CIRPASS DPP Related Initiatives Annex, coming out soon.

Lock’s 7 take-aways in relation to the luxury fashion industry are:

  1. Get prepared now: “The Delegated Act for DPP in textiles expected to be published around January 2026, with DPP expected to enter into force around July 2027” -CEO of the Global Textile Scheme, Andreas Schneider commented.

  2. Data creates trust: “Product without information is considered waste” - commented Christian Kitazume from German Environment Agency, UBA.

  3. Companies need digital expertise: Establishing a multi-cross-team for digital innovation strategy is vital. For SMEs, utilising DPP-as-a-service is a viable option.

  4. DPP information should be comparable. “Research proves that consumers demand data verification and certification to prevent greenwashing, along with ensuring the sustainability index is comparable” - said Co-Founder of circular.fashion Mario Osterwalder

  5. Beyond compliance: Consumers trust high value information, such as product care instructions and retail information, although they are not yet mandated.

  6. Brands should consider that data carriers, such as NFC or RFID chips need to be water, heat, and pressure resistant. Also, metal components in RFID chips could complicate the recycling process.

  7. Legal challenges. “It's important to determine which data aligns with specific regulations for example GDPR for personal data, Data Act for machine-generated data, Database Directive for trade secrets and intellectual property'“ - said Anna-Lena Hoffmann from CONTIQ Lawyers.
